Marketers rely on the fact that packaging can catch your eye and lead you to buy something that you never intended to buy. Dont let that happen by deciding on your purchases at home away from the fancy labels.

If you need to purchase prescription drugs, try to stick with generic labels. The drug will be exactly the same but will cost a lot less. Dont be fooled by the generic name. Learn the true name of the drug you take so you can easily recognize the generic equivalent.

If a drug you need is not available yet in generic form, look for programs to reduce the cost. There are many government programs available to help people afford their medication.

When buying over the counter medications, always buy the store brand. They are the same as the name brands you see advertised but are a lot cheaper.

Dont give your bank a bonus by bouncing checks. The fees can quickly add up and it is money simply wasted.

Try to reduce your credit card debt as quickly as possible. The money you pay each month in interest can add up to a considerable sum over a year.

Just like you dont want to contribute to the pay of your banker, theres no reason to help the credit card companies finance their lifestyles. Pay your bills on time and do not get anywhere near your limit. Fees for these things are huge and are a waste of money.

Keep in mind that if you use an ATM from a bank other than your own, you will likely be double tapped in fees. Not only will the other bank charge you to use the machine, your bank will likely penalize you for the transaction.

These things will not increase your pay check, but they will make it go farther. Remember, every penny really does count.
